MSF is hiring a female nurse for its HIV project in Karachi to provide nursing care, treatment and follow-up for patients under doctors' prescriptions and service protocols, with strict hygiene and confidentiality standards. The role covers hands-on patient care, HIV rapid testing, infection control, and support to the wider medical team. This role is open to female candidates only.
What we're looking for:
- A recognised nursing degree or diploma is essential; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is desirable.
- A valid nursing licence is mandatory.
- Fluent in Urdu and Pashto, spoken and written.
- Desirable: 2 years of previous experience working with NGOs.
- Demonstrable experience supervising and training other staff in a team setting.
- Able to maintain absolute confidentiality and provide professional, non-judgmental care to every client.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
- Provide nursing care, treatment and follow-up for patients according to doctors' prescriptions, service protocols and universal hygiene standards.
- Apply and monitor universal hygiene, bio-hazard prevention and infection-control precautions across the medical premises.
- Carry out care and treatments, assist during consultations and daily rounds, and help educate patients and families about their health.
- Identify victims of sexual and gender-based violence, refer them to the medical team, and know the correct use of the post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) kit.
- Triage patients in waiting areas, wards and emergencies, spot priority or acute cases, give first aid and refer them to a doctor.
- Admit, monitor and follow up patients, watch for any deterioration, keep proper records and handovers, and supervise nurse-aides, nutritional assistants and cleaners.
- Handle HIV rapid testing (finger-prick samples, Determine and Uni-Gold strips), safe sharps disposal, confidential test logging, and screening/referral for TB, STI and Hepatitis B/C co-infections.
