Before you accept an offer

Questions worth asking in Pakistan, whatever the number on the offer letter says.

1

Ask for the gross-to-net breakdown in writing

Income tax, provident fund and EOBI all come out of the headline figure. Ask HR for a payslip example at your grade so you know what actually reaches your account.

2

Check how a dollar-indexed salary is converted

Studios and remote employers often quote in USD. Ask which rate they use, how often it is revised, and whether a PKR floor applies if the rupee moves.

3

Provident fund and gratuity are not the same thing

A provident fund is a monthly contribution you can carry away once vested; gratuity is paid per completed year of service at exit. Ask which one applies and when it vests.

4

Price the allowances, not just the salary

Night shift stipends, transport, fuel, medical cover and bonuses change the real value of an offer. Ask for each one in writing — the listing rarely spells them out.
