Careem, the region's Everything App, is growing its data platform team and is looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer to keep its cloud infrastructure running smoothly at scale. This is a senior role at the heart of an AI-driven platform used by millions of people every day, offering real ownership over systems that power ride-hailing, food delivery, and payments across the Middle East and Pakistan. The team works with modern cloud-native tooling and gives engineers room to solve hard reliability problems.
What we're looking for:
- 5 to 8 years of experience running distributed systems at scale
- Proficiency in Go, Python, or Bash scripting
- Strong background in cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with Kafka, Redis, Cassandra, and similar messaging and caching systems
- Genuine interest in AI infrastructure such as vector stores and model serving platforms
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
- Run and scale cloud-native data systems on AWS with high availability and strong performance
- Automate infrastructure with tools like Terraform and Pulumi so deployments are repeatable and safe
- Support AI infrastructure such as vector databases and services built on large language models
- Monitor systems with Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry, and tune performance proactively
- Join on-call rotations and lead post-incident reviews to keep operations reliable
- Manage distributed systems including MySQL, Postgres, Kafka, Cassandra, Redis, and OpenSearch
